VALERO, Otmar Alberto--caught the seventh wave on May 26, 2002. He is survived by his parents, Bob and Christa Werling; daughter, Amber Clark; and many siblings and nieces and nephews: Alexander, Anne-Marie, Gianna & Gabriel Valero; Veronica, David, Katie & Josiah Porter-Valero; Sylvia, Tom, Danielle & Joshua Davis; Virginia, Eric, Stephen & Jeffrey Stockstad; and Alycen, Jim, David & Rory Creigh. He is also remembered and loved by his many relatives and friends.
Born on May 1, 1958 to Alberto and Christa Valero, he died on May 26, 2002. Otmar lived a short but very full life. His motto was to live to enjoy each day now - not in the future. His more recent passion was surfing and prior to his illness he lived in Santa Cruz and was often seen riding the waves by 38th Avenue and teaching surfing at Cowell Beach.
He graduated from Westmont High School in Campbell in 1976. Classmates may remember him as a varsity football player, as a varsity state championship wrestler, and as a varsity track & field pole-vaulter. Although he considered himself very shy, his easy going laid-back personality and his winning smile attracted many people to him and he made many friends.
The last 6 months of Otmar's life was an extremely difficult journey for him and for his family and friends as he fought cancer - he had a rare Sarcoma PNET tumor. Otmar, we mourn your loss and we will miss you greatly.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 12770 Saratoga Avenue, Saratoga, CA, (phone: 408-253-7167). A surfers memorial will be held at Cowell Beach in Santa Cruz on Sunday, June 9th in the morning.
